Indie Group Sues France’s President
US lawmakers aren’t the only politicians that musicians will go after. Indie group MGMT is reportedly demanding payment from French president Nicolas Sarkozy for using their song ‘Kids’ as part of his campaign without any permission. The song was featured at a political rally and in two online campaign videos. Sarkozy’s people admitted to the mistake and offered a symbolic gesture of one Euro. What? MGMT’s French lawyer rejected the offer and said that it was insulting. The legal counsel said “This offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors. It is insulting.” MGMT is picking a fight with the big guns. They have the right to anyway.
