Something to look forward to
What’s in a name? well, James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are about find out. Both parties are now in talks to as they’re in talks to lend their voices to the title roles of Gnomeo and Juliet. The film is a cartoon version of the Shakespeare classic, produced by Miramax and Elton John’s Rocket Pictures.
McAvoy and Blunt will play two star-crossed (lovers) gnomes, whose love for each other is complicated by the fact that they’re from opposite sides of the veggie patch.
The Juliet was originally offered to Kate Winslet but she was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
The film’s producers originally planned and hoped for lyricist Tim Rice (The Lion King) team up who teamed with Sir Elton to write original tunes for Gnomeo. Instead, it looks like the film will mainly feature a number of Elton John’s classic songs. Rumors claim that some the songs to be used are “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” “Sad Songs” or “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues”. They also are expecting John to write a couple of new tracks for the film slated for release in 2010.
